We’ve been discussing it for a while, but now it’s official. The NCAA is heading to Belfast, Northern Ireland, over Thanksgiving Weekend 2015 to play a four-team college-hockey tournament, and three of them will be from the Boston area.
The Odyssey Trust, owners of the Odyssey Arena, & home of the Elite League’s Belfast Giants, has announced that Northeastern, Brown, Colgate and UMass-Lowell will play in ‘The Friendship Four’, Belfast’s first major college ice hockey tournament, on Thanksgiving weekend – Friday, November 27th to Sunday, November 29th, 2015.
This is a world first for the NCAA-the first time the league has taken to the ice to play competitive games outside the USA. The four-team tournament is expected to draw large numbers of spectators from across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, GB and America.
